Sony FE 20mm f/1.8 G Lens. Full Frame E-Mount Lens. It’s an ideal companion for a range of subjects, from architecture and interiors to landscape to vlogging, and the sleek size makes it a go-to wide-angle option for everyday and travel shooting. This lens (S/N 18238xx) is in near mint condition. It looks brand new with pristine cosmetics, and the glass is equally fine, with no fungus, haze or dust. Under bright LCD light, I can see a few very small, fine coating marks but they are so small (and optically insignificant) that I almost missed them and outside of this very minor shortcoming, the lens is mint. The aperture ring works as it should, in both clicked and smooth settings, the aperture is clean, the mount looks new and the focus hold button works perfectly. Focus is silky smooth. I expected this new lens to be ultra-sharp and have super-fast focusing (and it has both), what I hadn’t expected is an almost complete lack of distortion common to all DSLR ultrawide lenses. With this 20/1.8 on can freely leave distortion correction off and bypass pixel resampling which can rob sharpness and still have nearly perfectly straight lines all the time. All my sample shots are made without any distortion correction. I love this lens. It’s fast, sharp, tough, and 20mm is my favorite fixed ultrawide focal length. Give me a 20mm, a 35mm and an 85mm and I’ve everything I need for anything. This 20 is smaller and lighter than any other Sony ultrawide option – and it has an aperture ring absent on all or most other Sony ultra-wides. I will do my best to rectify any shortcoming.
